Bothriomyrmex sp.
It was reported by Zh.V. Savranskaya (Grebennikov et al., 2002) for two locations in Kalmykia. Five years later, in his PhD thesis (Savranskaya, 2007), these findings were listed as two different species: Bothriomyrmex modestus Radchenko, 1985 (in Priyutnoe) and Bothriomyrmex turcomenicus Emery, 1925 (in Elista). I do not suppose it is possible to report these references as reliable for the Lower Volga region for two reasons. On the one hand, I do not know the place of keeping these specimens, and I have no possibility to study them. On the other hand, at present there is no complete modern revision of species of the genus Bothriomyrmex Emery, 1869 of the Western Palaearctic or wider region. In Bernard Seifert's article (2012) both mentioned by Savranskaya (2007) species are listed as “Taxa to be checked if additional species will be identified from Europe” and are not actually included in taxonomic analysis. In fact, key for the determination in this article includes only 4 species from western part of Europe. For the reasons explained above, I do not suppose it is possible to refer to any certain species of Bothriomyrmex for the Lower Volga region.
